Doing A Meta-Analysis

Learning outcomes

  • Understand different types of meta-analysis

  • Familiarize yourself with the Stata interface

  • Be able to conduct meta-analysis of:
    • Binary data - such hypertensive, major cardiovascular events, etc
    • Generic data - hazard ratio, smd, etc
    • Continuous data - systolic blood pressure, pain score, etc
    • Prevalence data - % hypertension, dementia, smoking status, etc
  • Be able to conduct meta-analysis using the following steps:

    1. STEP 1 - LOAD DATA
    2. STEP 2 - DECLARE, UPDATE & DESCRIBE meta data
    3. STEP 3 - SUMMARIZE meta data by using a TABLE or a FOREST PLOT
    4. STEP 4- EXPLORE HETEROGENEITY - SUB-GROUP and META-REGRESSION analysis
    5. STEP 5- EXPLORE and ADDRESS SMALL-STUDY EFFECTS
